Kate Walsh to Present at Emmy Awards

This year's Emmys will see a group of presenters that includes past winners, current nominees and people who deserve more recognition than they got.

Oh, and Private Practice star Kate Walsh will be there, too.

Among the snubbed was Kyle Chandler of NBC's Friday Night Lights, but he will be on hand to present. So, too, will Hayden Panettiere of Heroes.

Past winners Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammer will promote their new Fox sitcom, Back to You, while Jimmy Smits will plug his new CBS drama, Cane.

Kate Walsh will help boost Private Practice, the much-anticipated new ABC drama and spinoff of the successful Grey's Anatomy.

Speaking of Grey's Anatomy, Walsh's former co-star, Katherine Heigl (seen here with Kate and fellow Grey's Anatomy star T.R. Knight) who's up for best supporting actress, will also present.

Other presenters include Steve Carell, Jon Stewart, Kiefer Sutherland and the entire cast of HBO's hit series Entourage.

Fox will present the Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 16. Ryan Seacrest of American Idol will handle hosting duties.

Private Practice Spoilers For Season Premiere

May's somewhat-forced, two-hour pilot of Private Practice wasn't received very well by many critics, planting seeds of doubt that the spin-off will be able to repeat the magic of Grey's Anatomy.

However, ABC is giving it a go because Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) is a great character who is bankable as a lead. Hopefully Grey's Anatomy fans and other viewers give the show a chance when it debuts September 26.

That being said, how about some Private Practice spoilers, courtesy of the super sleuths at BuddyTV and SpoilerFix.com? Nothing too revealing below, but if you're not a spoiler fan, do not read on.

The Gang

The first episode, entitled "In Which We Meet Addison," features a 15-year-old named Lucy, who is in labor. Her mother is not helping making her feel better as she keeps saying that, yes, it hurts to deliver!

Thankfully, a nurse is more helpful. Police, meanwhile, are called when a woman, Jenny Banks, sits on the floor of a grocery store and repeats the same sentence over and over again.

A woman named Leslie is at the wellness center watching the doctors try to resuscitate her soon-to-be fiancé. A father is upset when he doesn't know the doctor who's about to remove his daughter's appendix.

A woman named Maria goes to a courthouse so that another woman her now dead husband wanted to marry doesn't get his money. Nothing new on the Private Practice characters and their interactions specifically now.

One interesting note, which means very little - apparently Private Practice will adhere to a pattern of episode titles, a la Grey's Anatomy. That show names every episode after a famous song.

Every episode of Private Practice will start with "In Which..." in the title. This is also reminiscent of Friends, which began each with "The One..."

TV Guide Takes a Look at Private Practice

Private Practice in TV Guide"Are you guys talking about me?" asks Kate Walsh.

The faux fire is flashing in her languid blue-green eyes.

"'Cause I don't trust a-one of you!"

On a recent Sunday evening, the actress, who shares the same sassy style as her Grey's Anatomy alter ego, Addison Montgomery, is playing host to a large, rather loud table of actors at Hollywood's chic Ammo eatery.

It's the first-ever sit-down dinner with the cast of her hotly anticipated Grey's Anatomy spin-off, Private Practice (missing is four-time Tony winner Audra McDonald, who ended her run in Broadway's 110 in the Shade hours before).

But as TV Guide reports, the group already seems like a rowdy, frat-house family even though they've only finished their first week of shooting.

Stunning in a royal-blue version of Marilyn Monroe's cleavage-bearing Seven Year Itch dress, her plate piled high with lasagna and wild salmon, Kate Walsh is quickly shot down about the topic of discussion.

"Um, no, you egomaniac," says old friend and new cast mate Paul Adelstein (aka Secret Service agent Paul Kellerman of Prison Break). "But I gotta tell you, that dress you've got on is very good for the boobs!"

Yep, that could easily be a quip from one of the interns of Grey's Anatomy, but if Shonda Rhimes, executive producer of both shows, has been telling the truth about Private Practice's "lighter, more comedic tone," it could also be a line from her new show.

Set in sunny Santa Monica, Calif., at the Oceanside Wellness Center, a medical / holistic / psychiatric co-op run by Sam Bennett (Taye Diggs) and his ex-wife, fertility specialist Naomi (McDonald, who replaces Merrin Dungey), Private Practice finds Addison trying to "reinvent herself," as Walsh puts it, after the trauma of her disastrous relationships with McDreamy, McSteamy and McAlex.

At the center, she finds a rather good-looking group of colleagues who have achieved all they dreamed of professionally but now must figure out what the hell to do with their personal lives.

Rounding out the cast are Tim Daly (Wings) as Pete Wilder, an alternative medicine specialist and Addison's likely romantic interest; Amy Brenneman (Judging Amy) as Violet Turner, a mess of a suddenly single psychiatrist; Chris Lowell (Veronica Mars) as Dell, the resident hot surfer boy (and its receptionist) the aforementioned Adelstein as pediatrician Cooper Freedman, who fosters a nasty habit of disastrous Internet hookups.

Also added to the cast is KaDee Strickland (who wasn't in the pseudo-pilot that aired last May) as Charlotte King, the chief of staff at the nearby St. Ambrose Hospital, whose more conservative practices frequently collide with the Center's looser, laid-back atmosphere.

Kate Walsh, Amy Brenneman"As Shonda has said, Grey's was like high school," explains Kate Walsh, flashing the jubilee-cut diamond that her fiancé (20th Century Fox co-president of production, Alex Young) gave her a few months ago.

"But the group at the Oceanside Wellness Center are like a big, grown-up family."

"They've already been through the wringer together. Well, me, of course. I'm the newbie again, a fish out of water, just like at Seattle Grace."

She pauses before announcing, "Fly in the ointment right over here!"

Addison Montgomery: From Loathed to Loved

Glamorous Kate WalshA little patience.

That's what it would take for her character on Grey's Anatomy, Dr. Addison Montgomery, to really connect with audiences.

At least that's how Kate Walsh saw it.

Her role as the estranged spouse of Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd, was only intended to be short-term.

But Addison took on a life of her own the longer she was on screen.

Initially, neo-natal surgeon Addison was hated by fans who saw her as standing between Meredith and Derek and their true happiness.

But as Addison's story lines evolved, she became one of Grey's Anatomy's most beloved characters. Not shabby.

"They started off writing her like the wicked witch from the east all in black, coming in to clean up. And then they just gradually made her more and more human and took off the scales one by one," Kate Walsh said.

"They do this with everybody in the show. All the characters have a work persona and a personal persona. I think that's just very real, and that it is also very natural that some people would reveal theirs more than others, like the interns that are working 400 hours a week."

The public reaction to Addison has changed from anger over Derek to joy at seeing her in the arms of Dr. Mark Sloan (Eric Dane).

The character is so popular, producers gave her a spin-off series.

Walsh left at the end of Season 3 to begin Private Practice, which viewers have already had a taste of in a previous episode of Grey's Anatomy.

Set in Los Angeles, the show also stars Taye Diggs and Tim Daly.

"Basically, where Grey's Anatomy is sort of people who worked together that become friends, these are all friends that decided to form a private practice," Walsh says.

The actress adds that viewers can expect to see more of the characters' "messy personal lives." We can't wait!

Moving Up: Kate Walsh, Alex Young Buy New Pad

Kate Walsh left the cast of Grey's Anatomy last year to star in her own spin-off, Private Practice, but Seattle Grace isn't the only thing she's leaving behind.

According to Us Weekly, Walsh has put her current digs up for rent and just bought a home with her fiancé Alex Young.

How does the new place for the Private Practice leading lady stack up? A $4.75 million, 6,000-square foot Spanish-style home in Los Feliz, California.

The 39-year-old actress closed on the gated five-bedroom, six-bath house on July 17. The couple's new home boasts a media room, wine room, a pool house that includes a spa, and its own bar.

The rear grounds of Kate Walsh's new place are complemented by an outdoor fireplace, free-standing hot tub, outdoor cooking center and dining area.

If Kate Walsh ever wants to visit her bachelorette pad, she doesn't have to stray too far from home. Her old stomping grounds are less than a mile away.

Currently up for lease for $8,800 a month, the four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath Moorish-influenced home features a step-down living room, new kitchen, and a dining room lined with French doors which lead out to the pool area.

There is a private deck and multiple verandas and gardens. It's is within walking distance of Los Feliz Village and was featured in O magazine.

Kate Walsh, Friends at Bachelorette Bash

With under two months to go until her new series debuts, Private Practice star Kate Walsh has plenty to celebrate. But last weekend was cause for something celebratory and altogether different - a bachelorette party in her honor!

Among the friends on hand to help Kate Walsh celebrate at Tao nightclub in Las Vegas' Venetian hotel were former co-star Sara Ramirez and Keisha Chambers, the wife of another Greys Anatomy mainstay, Justin Chambers.

While no date has been announced that we're aware of, it looks like Kate's wedding could be in the works for the near future! Kate Walsh, 39, got engaged to Fox studio executive Alex Young earlier this year.

Kate Walsh Lets Loose

Kate Walsh and friends clearly had a blast in Sin City.

The premiere of Private Practice is set for Wednesday, September 26, at 9 p.m. We're looking forward to seeing Kate, Taye Diggs and the rest of the cast of this promising series make their debut!
