Dr. Addison Montgomery has said goodbyes at Seattle Grace Hospital.

Kate Walsh, who will star in her own spinoff series, Private Practice, this fall, says her character has no loose ends to tie up with the angst-ridden doctors on Grey’s Anatomy.

“I think I’m finished with Grey’s,” she said during a visit to Canada to promote her new show.

“My work is kind of done there,” Walsh added. “I had come to Seattle to save my marriage, that didn’t work. There’s really nothing left for me there except the job.”

The job, of course, isn’t enough. After being turned down for the position of hospital chief on the Grey’s Anatomy season finale, Addison was told, rather unceremoniously by Richard Webber, that she needed a new life.

Next month, she’ll get one, as Walsh officially starts shooting Private Practice, the pilot of which was introduced to viewers during a special two-hour episode of Grey’s Antomy earlier this year.

The brainchild of Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes, the show is set at a private medical facility in Los Angeles and co-stars Tim Daly of Wings fame and Amy Brenneman of the longtime drama Judging Amy.

The pilot episode received mixed reviews, and Walsh admits she had a little trepidation about leaving a show as successful as Grey’s Anatomy.

Still, she says she loves the character of Addison and is excited to see her evolve. And, like many Grey’s Anatomy stars, she has effusive praise for - and complete trust in - Shonda Rhimes.

“She feels passionately about writing for people - men and women - in their 30s and 40s who are, like: ‘Now what?’ ‘What do we do? We’re living lives that are unlike our parents in most every way. Or we tried to have the life that our parents had or emulate that, but it didn’t quite work out so now what do we do?”‘

Kate Walsh, 39, seems to closely identify with those questions.

Although she’s drop-dead gorgeous, she’s lamented that her romantic life is not where she thought it would be at this stage in her life. But those worries seem to have evaporated of late.

A few weeks ago, when ABC announced it was picking up Private Practice as part of its Wednesday lineup, Walsh had some news of her own: she’s engaged to studio executive Alex Young.

That and the spinoff make for a moment the actress is ready to embrace.

“In times of faith in my life, I always thought everything would happen at once, and then of course there are times you’re like ‘no I’m going to die alone in a box on the street.’”

“I strangely felt very ready for all of this, if that’s possible.”

Kate Walsh planned to stay on Grey’s Anatomy for only five episodes.

Fortunately for everyone, her strength and charm, mixed with plenty of inner vulnerability, turned Dr. McDreamy’s cheating wife into a flawed fan favorite.

After three years as Addison Montgomery-Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy, Walsh was given her own spinoff, Private Practice, slated for the fall of 2007.

A native of San Jose, and graduate of the Tucson, Ariz., Catalina Magnet High School (see photo below, left) and the University of Arizona, who once donned a fat suit (below, right) to play Drew Carey’s girlfriend, Nicki Fifer, Walsh has certainly come into her own.

The red-headed late bloomer has also found love with Alex Young, a 20th Century Fox executive, whom she plans to marry.

1. As a teenager, Kate Walsh’s stepfather, a prison psychologist, paid her $5 a page to type psychological profiles of inmates he treated.
2. The romantic comedy, The Sweetest Thing, starring Cameron Diaz, was written by Kate Walsh’s best friend, Nancy Pimental, who based the film’s female characters on the two of them.
3. An opera fanatic, Kate overlooked some bizarre antics of a date in the 1990s because he had tickets to the Metropolitan Opera. “I get into the car, and the first thing this guy does is spray me with perfume. I don’t even know where it came from. Maybe it belonged to the last woman he killed?”
4. Kate Walsh played the lesbian lover of none other than Grey’s Anatomy star Sandra Oh in the 2003 comedy-drama, Under the Tuscan Sun.
5. Kate Walsh’s last job before her star-turning role on Grey’s Anatomy was playing a transvestite Las Vegas showgirl named Mimosa on CSI in 2004.

If you thought redhead Kate Walsh looked great in a white Catherine Malandrino dress a few weeks ago, we’d have to agree with you.

And if you thought her similar-but-slinky Jay Godfrey dress on the blue carpet at the Fantastic Four opening in London was also a hit, well, you were right on the money there as well.

But, in this site’s humble opinion, the floor-length David Salomon gown the Private Practice star sported at last week’s Women in Film Crystal and Lucy Awards took the fashion cake.

We’re starting to wonder if the former Grey’s Anatomy doctor is trying out looks for her upcoming wedding to Alex Young!

The lovely Kate Walsh and her new fiance, Alex Young, dined with friends in Los Angeles Saturday. The Private Practice actress and her future husband sure seem to be in love, which is very sweet indeed.

After dining, the newly engaged twosome “engaged” in some romance, with Alex hugging, kissing and caressing Kate’s belly.

This has led some presumptuous celebrity gossip sites to suggest Kate Walsh is pregnant, although we believe that’s pure nonsense at this point.In any case, lovebirds Kate, 39, and Alex, 36, announced their engagement over a month ago after being together for just a few months prior to that.

The two have reportedly met with an upscale real-estate broker and have been house-hunting together in Los Angeles of late.

Kate Walsh’s Grey’s Anatomy spin-off, entitled Private Practice, premieres this fall on ABC. We can’t wait to see more of this shining star.

Who wore it better? That’s up to you to decide. Kate Walsh wore Thread Social’s silk georgette dress to a political fund raiser for Barack Obama (an event she attended with fiance Alex Young) in L.A., while Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross headed out with it in Malibu, Calif.

Isaiah Washington has spoken out for the first time since he got axed from the ABC hit series Grey’s Anatomy.

“I’m saddened by the outcome,” Washington told Entertainment Weekly.

“I did everything the producers and the network asked me to do. I came back under great duress and stress, and thought that I was doing the job I was hired to do.”

Last week, he learned that he will not return to the show for Season 4 of Grey’s and he obviously was upset, releasing a statement through his publicist saying: “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any more.”

Washington denied rumors that he was considered for a spin-off series featuring his Grey’s character, Preston Burke. The spin-off pilot featuring Kate Walsh, of course, became next fall’s Private Practice.

Washington also said that he hasn’t gotten much love from his cast mates - Chandra Wilson and Kate Walsh excluded.

“Everyone is still on vacation. I don’t expect to hear from my castmates. I did talk to Chandra Wilson and I received a text message from Kate Walsh. Mostly, everyone’s doing their own thing.”

Wonder what that text message said… Hopefully, something supportive.

No matter how you feel about the Washington controversy and whether he should’ve been fired, he provided a certain dimension to Grey’s Anatomy that won’t easily be replaced. We wish him well.

Former Grey’s Anatomy star and current Private Practice leading lady Kate Walsh and her fiancee, Alex Young, were among celebrities attending the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball charity event.

The event was co-chaired by a lovely actress, Rebecca Gayheart - the wife of Kate Walsh’s one-time Grey’s Anatomy love, Eric Dane.

Chrysalis is dedicated to helping disadvantaged and homeless individuals become self-sufficient through new employment opportunities.

Good to see Kate Walsh and her fellow stars supporting a good cause, as well as having a good time with friends.
